Senior Fellow

 

Richard. P. Smiraglia is Senior Fellow and Executive Director of the Institute for Knowledge Organization and Structure, Inc. He is author of more than 300 publications in information science and knowledge organization. He holds a PhD from the University of Chicago and is Professor, iSchool at Milwaukee, Univ. of Wisconsin Milwaukee. He was 2018-2019 KNAW Visiting Professor at DANS, The Hague, The Netherlands, where he remains Visiting Fellow.

Melodie J. Fox, PhD is Associate Fellow, Institute for Knowledge Organization and Structure, Inc Board of Directors; she is Coordinator of Academic Documents and Publications, Milwaukee School of Engineering.

 

 

 

Richard Griscom, MM, MLIS, is Associate Fellow and Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Knowledge Organization and Structure, Inc. He is Associate University Librarian for Departmental Libraries at the University of Pennsylvania.

Edmund J.Y. Pajarillo is Associate Fellow of IKOS. He is Associate Professor, Department of Graduate Studies in Nursing, College of Nursing and Public Health, Adelphi University, Garden City, NY.

 

 

 

Rick Szostak is Associate Fellow of IKOS. He is Professor of Economics at the University of Alberta. He is the author or co-author of twenty books, including Classifying Science: Phenomena, Data, Theory, Method, Practice, and Interdisciplinary Knowledge Organization. He has published 60 journal articles, including in JASIST, Journal of Documentation, Library Trends, and several in Knowledge Organization. He was President of the International Society for Knowledge Organization from 2018 to 2022. He has developed (with others) a phenomenon-based classification, The Basic Concepts Classification.

 

 

 

Andrea Scharnhorst is Associate Fellow of IKOS. She is Andrea Scharnhorst is senior research fellow at DANS. In her academic career she moved from statistical physics, to philosophy of science, scientometrics and information sciences. She has published on models of innovation and science dynamics, the Matthew effect in science, the evolution of classification systems, the use of digital research archives, visual interfaces for information navigation, and the application of linked data in the humanities. Often her work entails the transfer of concepts and methods at an interface between physics and social sciences and humanities.

 

 

 

Brad Young, MA, MLIS, is Associate Fellow and Bibliographic Specialist of the Institute for Knowledge Organization and Structure, Inc. He retired in 2013 as Music Technical Services Librarian at the University of Pennsylvania.

 

 

 

Sergey Zherebchevsky, MA, is Associate Fellow of the Institute for Knowledge Organization and Structure, Inc. He is PhD Candidate, Palmer School of Library and Information Science, Long Island University.

 

 

 

Visiting Fellow

 

Fernando William Cruz. MS, PhD, is Visiting Fellow of the Institute for Knowledge Organization and Structure, Inc. He is an adjunct professor at the School of Information Science (Faculdade de Ciência da Informação) of the University of Brasilia (UnB-Universidade de Brasília). He joins IKOS to collaborate on a conceptual model of Brazilian popular music.
